Ukraine launched a large overnight drone attack targeting Russia's Moscow region on Friday, with explosions and fires reported east of the capital, according to Russian officials and local media. Social media images appeared to show thick black smoke rising from an oil depot in the city of Noginsk, about 31 miles east of the Kremlin. Another major fire was reported at a Wildberries fulfillment center in the nearby city of Elektrostal.
The full extent of the damage was not immediately known, and officials have not confirmed whether the facilities sustained direct hits. Emergency crews responded to both fire sites as investigations continued.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said Ukraine launched more than 370 drones toward the Moscow region during the attack, claiming that 64 were intercepted while approaching the capital. Ukrainian authorities did not immediately comment on the operation. The latest strike marks another escalation in the ongoing conflict, with both sides increasingly targeting infrastructure far from the front lines.
