A fisherman in the Philippines had a terrifying encounter with an octopus after the sea creature suddenly latched onto his face, nearly leaving him unable to breathe.
Jesser Cervantes was fishing from a wooden dinghy near Puerto Princesa Island in Palawan when he pulled the octopus from the water. Moments later, the animal wrapped its tentacles around his head and clung tightly to his face.
Footage shows Cervantes struggling to remove the octopus as its powerful suckers spread across his face and covered his mouth. Fearing he could suffocate, the fisherman resorted to clubbing the creature to break its grip.
After a tense struggle, the octopus finally released him. Cervantes then returned the animal to the ocean and caught his breath.
Describing the encounter, Cervantes said the octopus was extremely difficult to handle and nearly ripped his face. The dramatic incident left him shaken but unharmed.
