India has officially received the Commonwealth Games flag and baton, marking the country’s upcoming role as host of the landmark 2030 edition in Ahmedabad. The handover took place on August 3, 2026, during the closing ceremony of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The Indian delegation at the ceremony included Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha, Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, and Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. Together, they accepted the symbolic flag and baton, formally beginning India’s preparations to host the centenary edition of the prestigious multi-sport event.
Ahmedabad is set to stage the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which will commemorate 100 years of the Commonwealth Games movement. The hosting opportunity is expected to bring global attention to India’s sporting infrastructure and further strengthen the country’s position as an international destination for major sporting events.
The handover represents a significant milestone for Indian sports and sets the stage for a historic Games in 2030.
