Dramatic body-camera footage captures the rescue of an 80-year-old man from his burning home in St. Lawrence County, New York.
New York State Police said Trooper James Bertram was nearby when he heard dispatchers alert firefighters to a house fire on Haggert Road in the town of Oswegatchie shortly after 11 a.m.
Bertram rushed to the scene and found the home engulfed in heavy smoke and flames. After learning that someone was still trapped inside, he entered the burning building and located the elderly man.
The trooper helped the man escape the house, where a second officer, Trooper Craig Thornhill, arrived and assisted them. Body-camera footage shows Thornhill carrying the man away from the burning property toward the road.
The victim was taken to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center before being transferred to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for further treatment. His condition was not immediately released.
