Two people were taken into police custody on Wednesday after climbing to the top of the iconic Empire State Building in New York City and staging a dramatic protest nearly 1,500 feet above the city. The pair, a man and a woman dressed in dark clothing and masks, unfurled a banner carrying a powerful message of peace: “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world will know peace.” The scene became even more surreal when the man dropped to one knee, appearing to propose to the woman. Moments later, the two embraced and shared a kiss high above the city skyline as an NBC New York helicopter captured the spectacle from above. After spending several minutes atop the skyscraper, the pair safely descended to street level, where they were immediately taken into police custody. Authorities are investigating how they accessed the restricted area.
